Currently, over 60% of the world population lives in a country where capital punishment is practiced. In 2011, at least 676 executions were carried out worldwide. However, this number excludes China, where thousands of people are thought to have been executed. In 2011, 1,923 people were known to have been sentenced to death. Some people have accepted the law of capital punishment and others strongly contend that it is inhumane.
